Hoist the colors
Sep. 1st, 2009 01:03Other people have said this way better than I can (and most likely than I will ever be able to), but please don't take the fanfiction survey that's been floating around. As of this writing, it's offline for "digestion", but the fact that these yahoos have a book contract for 2010 publication means that they either have no intention of seriously considering the results of their survey or are going to treat those results in the same fast and loose manner with which they conceived it. Actually my money is on both options--these people have no compunction about correlating IP addresses with supposedly anonymous replies, which is yet another piece of evidence against them, and their utter cluelessness about research, fans, and fandom. We are, for them, a means to their own profit and self-aggrandizement, objects rather than fellow subjects.
As someone who aspires to have Ph.D after her name, these people make me ashamed; as a fan and as a woman, they make my blood boil. If you want something done right, you've got to do it yourself. Hence my membership in, and volunteering for, the OTW.
