I liked the pirate story until they gave away the ending halfway through.

Yeah, I agree about the layout, it's boring, and I gathered from the Wikipedia article that some people have just spent hours staring at all the little details in the panels, but I was having too hard a time figuring out which speech bubbles to read next, and the colors were awful, so I didn't linger.

The story was great, but I don't think I'd really want to revisit it, since I did think it was so toxic, and making it happier would destroy its integrity in a way. Though the streamlining aspect of a movie adaptation would definitely be an improvement--hopefully no more painfully boring interludes with Dr. Manhattan.
