Thank you. I thought of the height switch for a running joke in the steampunk AU WIP, but then it showed up in here and I couldn't take it out. Of course Watson switched their heights!
I considered Irene's sympathy for a while. I think Holmes and Irene are definitely far more intellectual about their emotions than Watson (and Mary) is, and between her chosen existence and the fact that Holmes rejected her before he died I tend to think that Irene has had more of a chance to deal with Holmes's death. And I think Mary's death has reopened Watson's wounds.
