I'd be lying if I said I knew what the state police did other than pull people over for speeding on the highways. Actually in New Jersey about 10 years ago now there was a terrible scandal over widespread racial profiling in whom the state police pulled over, the civil rights division of the Justice Department wound up directly supervising them for several years iirc.
