Yeah, I agree. A pithy phrase is escaping me--Cat Valente has some awesome take-downs of the genre's pretensions here. She also has a great take-down of The Ice Storm, though I can't find the entry where she rants about the book. (But speaking of Rick Moody, that one review written about him still makes me laugh.)
