Slowly returning to our regularly scheduled programming

So via cofax7 today I found out a) that Polyamorous Recommendations exists and b) that "The Momiji File" made it onto yesterday's updated rec list, which is intensely flattering. *is flattered*

There are more thinky-thoughts about WisCon forthcoming as I digest them, I think, particularly the discussion about affirmational and transformational fandom that's going on over at damned_colonial's. New people I met and added at WisCon, I am so glad to have met and added you, this conversation that is ongoing is clearly amazing. And I think I need to register for FOGCon.

On a similar note, welcome new people! I am going to add all of you whom I met at WisCon to my Wiscon filter, but please let me know if you'd like to be on my writing filter. I never used to talk about writing, and still quite honestly when I hear people talk about writing as a communal experience I more or less boggle, because that is not my experience of writing at all, but I am trying to put a little more community into my process via the filter. It seems to be working well so far!

Definitely thank you for the heads-up on the 'affirmational v. transformational fandom' discussion; I mean, I'm trying to touch on aspects of this myself, both in the fansubbing paper, and in what I hope to do with AMV's. And, yeah, always nice to see effective terminology to connect your ideas to!

(...the interesting thing here, too is - it's very rarely the "other side" - I guess, the affirmational fans - who *would* bother to look around about who else is there in the fandom 'space.')

And, like I think I mentioned, I still definitely want to hear hour your AMV's talk went, and how people responded!

I am working on a draft of another AMV post now. Like a lot of the things I said at WisCon, it's heavily influenced by The Anime Machine, to a point.

I have to say, I find that the bulk of the interesting fannish discussions about fandom has moved to Dreamwidth, or is cross-posting from there. All the posts linked in those entries are pretty great, anyway.

For a particular slice or side of fandom, certainly. Though, I've actually been thinking about something along these lines too - with the pretty much irrelevance of AoDVD, with AnimeVice going nowhere, and with ANN moving more and more in the direction of being a media platform, there really are not that many spaces left for stereotypical mid-2000's-like American otaku/fanboys and their discussions. For what that's worth, the public and semi-public face of online media fandom in general is changing.

Except, of course, hey, there is *always* 4chan and IRC...

I think in some ways I have aca-ized myself out of most anime fandom discussions. LJ is definitely still the place for them on the whole, but the majority of the few people with whom I do have the best discussions both about what I like about anime and manga and what frustrates me to death about specific examples of them are on DW (with a few notable exceptions, including you). There are some blogs I like too, but no real central watering hole.

I'm frankly back to the point where most of the anime/manga discussions that I do participate in aren't even online - especially since what I end up talking about usually is not the content itself, but how it's presented, marketed, sold and distributed.
