Holidays are for food.

Apparently "it's almost a holiday" really means "you must cook ALL the things." Or, in my case, since Saturday night:

- pesto
- zucchini pie
- berry crisp 2x: mixed berry once, blueberry once
- stuffed zucchini
- chana masala with [personal profile] shveta_writes (♥)

I have cooked so much that this afternoon I broke my pepper grinder. Tonight or tomorrow I'm going to make banana bread, too.

The pesto came out great for a first attempt, though next time I will probably quintuple the garlic. Also, the salty cheese is a must.

The zucchini pie was okay; I think next time I might sauté the onions first? But really it was a great convergence of "I have five pounds of zucchini and a pie crust and a potluck tomorrow morning!" and people at said potluck liked it. That's victory in my book.

I love this berry crisp so much. It's a combination of the filling from NPR's blueberry cobbler and the crisp crust from the strawberry-rhubarb crisp (both published on the website in 2007; links findable with more searching than I have time for at the moment). The salient point is not to be stingy with the ground ginger and cinnamon in the crust or the pepper in the filling, and to be cautious with the sugar added to the berries for mastication.

The chana masala came out pretty well, though we basically doubled the recipe except for the onion, which was an oversight. But oh, with plain yogurt and basmati rice, it tasted good.

Next up next week: maple-bacon cupcakes and Aztec gold brownies.
