Yeah, River's story actually gets more painful the further along it goes.

For my taste, I thought they did a nice job of resolving enough threads while keeping enough dangling. The first half of the episode in particular moved at a really fast clip, but in comparison with, say, The X-Files, I actually liked that, at least as a change of pace.
