In which I close tabs with a VENDETTA, I tell you

# [personal profile] rushthatspeaks has a priceless, priceless, priceless review of Frank Miller's 300.

# Via everyone, the Broship of the Rings. I think Eowyn and Arwen and Saruman are my favorite, but.

# New York now has gay marriage (and no residency requirement for marriage)! I'm with Hertzberg: let this be the end of all that "California > the East Coast" nonsense, because obviously, no.

# And the Equal Rights Amendment was just reintroduced into Congress. (h/t [personal profile] lotesse) Time to write my Congresspeople.

# Yikes. Dropbox left user accounts unlocked for four hours last Sunday. (h/t [personal profile] littlebutfierce)

# Pixar's new movie Brave has a female protagonist! Fucking finally. (h/t [personal profile] cofax7)

# [personal profile] toft on Is women's sexuality more fluid? Spoilers: No. Great comments, too.

# [personal profile] snarp has an excellent point about the Utena movie.

# Disney Princess Sailor Scouts! And historical Disney princesses!

# A Softer Universe, aka [personal profile] aria mixes A Softer World and Doctor Who. I need to get a tumblr, don't I.

# I recently read two interesting and disturbing articles on politics in other countries in The New Yorker, one on Italy under Berlusconi and the other on the takeover of local government by drug gangs in Mexico. I don't imagine these articles have perfect or even inoffensive reporting, but they do both raise interesting questions about civil society and "state capture."

Moving on to fic and such!
# Signups are open for Parallels 2011! The signup form is here; [personal profile] franzeska has AO3 invitations for all who need them. Signups end 3 July!

# Transformative Works and Cultures announces its issue on Transnational Boys' Love Fan Studies!

And as usual, [community profile] dark_agenda has been up to awesome things.

The awesome thing about that Dropbox business is that they still haven't emailed users saying it happened. If you're a Dropbox user who doesn't read tech blogs, you still don't know this happened. Fortunately I still haven't kicked my BoingBoing habit? My account is now empty.

Hmm... If I'd gotten involved in the nominating process I think I might have liked to do Parallels. But I don't think there's enough fandoms I'm comfortable with on the list (Actually, I only saw two). Oh well, maybe next year.

Thank you so much for the link roundup. The 300 review, particularly, as it echoes every fact a Persian friend and my husband who spent some of his childhood in Greece have spit at the movie/comic when folks have tried to proselytize it at them.

Also I had aaaalmost finished reading a paper copy of the Berlusconi article and lost it and it was driving me batty, especially after the Napoli trip, so thanks doubly for finding it and posting it somewhere I happened to see.

Ohh, I want to see Brave! Seriously, I'm all excited. I'll have to go once alone and then take my brothers (they can't read subtitles -- and I refuse to see something I want to see dubbed for the first time). :D :D :D

Yeesh, nice of Dropbox to actually inform users that happened (I didn't know about the issue until I saw it posted it here). On the plus side, it justified my paranoia in not backing up anything to Dropbox that has private information.
