I just finished watching Avatar: The Last Airbender with unjapanologist. HOW SO AWESOME, SHOW!? I just want it to go on forever and ever and ever, amen. At least Legend of Korra comes out (sometime) next year… I will have more to say at some point.

On the walk back to the subway I made up a completely unrelated poem.

Kyoto at night
The wind rustles the rice fields
Between frogs and stars.

It's metrical if you pronounce the long vowel in 'Kyoto.'

Not so much atmospheric as literal, really. I couldn't get the third line to work until I dropped the idea of an adjective modifying 'stars' and brought in the frogs, which resolved my dilemma over the location-word at the start of it too. The first line, as you see, I decided not to try to fix.

Well, atmosphere is atmospheric, isn't it? And in Japanese, you can leave on syllable away for emphasis or something. At least that's what I learned.

I think so? Definitely one extra syllable is an emphasis technique in all the metrical poetic forms I've studied. =)
