I grew up with electric ranges and no one told me that to broil things in a gas oven you put them in the drawer at the bottom of the oven. WTF, with my oven at my dad's house that is where we stored pans.

Me too. The first time I opened the bottom of our gas oven I just kind of stared, going "...why is there a rack in here? Is it a shelf for the pans?".
