It does make sense for BBC!Mycroft and Sherlock to be in different houses because Sherlock hates Mycroft so much. It would be very canonical for the hat to offer Sherlock Slytherin and him to ask for Ravenclaw.

The sexism, and the fact that so many of the casefiles just aren't that great, are just too much for me.
