I think "Xirokee" is possible to get from context (possibly easier for a U.S.-ian, however), since Yellow Hare has reddish skin and black hair, smokes tobacco from a long pipe, etc, but the Greek stuff and the Chinese stuff, I think most people who aren't specialists would have trouble with. It's frustrating! But the book is really interesting even with all that.
