I thought the review was basically totally off-base, but I know it gave at least a few people pause, so I wanted to mention it.
Like I said, I basically disagreed with all of it, but I wanted to mention the stuff about "homophobia" in particular--I think a gay character sustaining a knee injury is not homophobic, particularly not in a story in which every protagonist is emotionally or physically injured in one way or another by the end (there's a battle). I think it's important, in advocating for more diverse books, to also keep a sense of perspective.
