Doctor Who 6x05-07

Oh RORY. You'd understand what the gangers are going through, wouldn't you?

"The Rebel Flesh" was a bit, well, the Doctor gets to be both Dr. Frankenstein and Frankenstein's monster, isn't that nifty! And I can't help but feel that there's a tiny bit of Stargate in here somewhere, though of course the ganger makeup reminds one of nothing so much as Odo & the Founders from DS9. The actress playing Jennifer even looks a bit like the actress who played Ziyal, for added crossover potential. (Sidenote: I think if any DS9 character was fridged for manpain, it was Ziyal, not Dax. Dax was fridged because Terry Farrell wanted more money & left when she didn't get it, and you can see that it wasn't for manpain because it doesn't do anything for Worf or Sisko's storylines. But I think t'wings point about the grammar of television only having one way to tell that story muscling in on Dax's death is strengthened by that, really.)

That said, it shouldn't have taken me 1.2 episodes to realize that this two-parter was a take-off on the movie Moon. And also on Farscape too, huh? Though really, if you're going to rip off other SF, at least it's good to rip off top-drawer SF.

I maintain that we now have a potential solution to the whole "the Doctor dies" dilemma. Also, I want fic about The Doctor & Miranda 2.0's adventures! Because you know they'll survive.

As for the end of "The Almost People"…at least they played the trope for pure and utter horror, I suppose. Everyone's seen [personal profile] laurashapiro's vid Stay Awake, yes? Read the warnings, though.

First thought: Holy shit, did I pop in one of the Star Was prequels and not realize it? OH MY GOD RORY WEAR THE ARMOR AND CAPE SOME MORE

Wait, wait, wait, I WANT SHERLOCK HOLMES CROSSOVER FIC ABOUT THESE WOMEN AND THEN I WANT ALL THE FIC ABOUT THEM EVER

I don't know crap about Captain Harcourt or the Battle of Zarathustra but I would not mind reading about future wars in which the Age of Sail has ray guns! As long as the female characters get to fight too.

…Okay, very fucking Farscape, at least superficially. I have no problems with this. Also, just a little bit of Star Wars satire here, just a little, yes?

You know what, having just reread Tsubasa vol. 23, the whole Flesh/projection thing really, really, really reminds me of Tsubasa. Amy = Shaoran', OH MY GOD.

Actually, you know, it's doubly like Tsubasa, in that both mother and daughter were Flesh-projected! AUGH DOCTOR WHO WHY MUST YOU COPY CLAMP OF ALL THINGS

The multiverse has gone topsy-turvy. Nurses are warriors, doctors are generals, and the Ponds are on the outside of the Tardis, looking in.

This does rather explain some things about River though, doesn't it? Namely why she's content to stay in that fucking prison: she fulfilled her purpose in life very young (we saw her do it in 6x01), and she keeps going back to jail because she believes she deserves to be punished for it. I don't know that I agree with her, but I can understand it, at least.

My other main thought about this is, Welp, there goes the sedoretu, *sigh*.

As for Eyepatch Lady…the ends do not justify the means, no matter what.

I have to say I do like Amy/Rory and their clones a lot better than Sakura/Syoran, but yeah. Also I'd lean toward Prof Song = Yuuko and Clow = Doctor.

Also, it occurs to me that Cardcaptor Sakura, Tsubasa and Holic have the same interuniverse relationship as SJA, Dr Who, and Torchwood.

I don't understand it; normally I am amused by and generally positive on Rory, but when he puts on the Roman costume, suddenly WHAT, RORY, HOW ARE YOU SO HOT. His whole presentation changes. Which I guess is why he put it on for that episode, since otherwise it is totally nonsensical.

My theory is, Amy demonstrably has a thing for dress-ups, and Rory feels that she deserves a treat when she finally gets rescued.

(I also like to think that between eps 5 and 6, Rory had a little talk with the Doctor about informed consent and maybe asking people's permission before you dissolve their fake-body so that they wake up in unpleasant conditions.)

Well, I do suspect that, although the Doctor is very startled and apologetic when he realises what he did wrong and promises not to do it again, he doesn't really understand enough to properly internalise it so likely will keep doing it again. And again. And again...

Hah, I love it.

I think it's largely that you haven't seen the other five seasons. You should get on that! I gave you a list of the best ones and everything! :)

Nine was all traumatized and angry, and Ten was a bit more put together, but Tennant could still do a pretty good "coldly furious" when called upon.

Or, actually, let me put it another way: are you actually fully aware of exactly what HAPPENED to the Time Lords?

Whoops, that was me.
