Here, have a slice of my continuing obsession
I'm going to Tokyo via special rapid train on Friday and coming back Monday (special rapid trains are not actually that fast; depending on connections, the trip takes nine or 10 hours) and I'm leaving Japan in three weeks and AUGH. Naturally, instead of doing the myriad things I need to do I have been reading fic. And manga. And writing fic too.
A small selection of XMFC fanworks
First, because quite honestly, I have fifty years of Marvel canons if I want the profound grief of the movie ending, are things that reminded me of what I was trying to do in my own XMFC fic, Synthesis (Scenes from an AU). Consequently, this portion of the post is profoundly self-indulgent.
I feel like
helens78's A Summer Day So Late in Coming is the non-AU version of Synthesis. Also, it's gorgeous.
There are many scenes I did not write in Synthesis, as people who've read it doubtless noticed. There were many reasons for that, starting with the fact that I had no desire to rewrite fifty years of canon events. (And, you know, which canon?) But for those who've been wondering about the "Erik comes back to the mansion" scene, or even the scene before that when "Erik decides to execute his reverse course" (and yes, I did use that rather loaded term intentionally), I offer you
recessional's version of the latter, in which Erik's decision is spurred by Amy, Eleven, Rory and Melody. It is, I assure you, as awesome as it sounds (though it doesn't quite point to the road in Synthesis. Or maybe it does; a two-front war is eminently possible, after all).
Mutant Is Not a Synonym for Shitty (MINASFS) by

Irene/Raven, Erik/Charles
This is a WIP, though what's posted now stands alone, and it's great--it takes a more optimistic line than I could bring myself to, but Irene and Raven are awesome, and the writer's familiarity with the comics shows to great advantage, and it's gorgeous.
Second, relatedly, AUs and WIPs
I swore I wouldn't read "pure" AUs in this fandom. I should know by now never to swear anything when it comes to reading fic. I'm deliberately not swearing anything about reading fic now, because god knows where any such vows will end up.

Erik/Charles, no warnings
This is a fusion of XMFC with James Bond and it is utterly brilliant as well as an inspired satire of and homage to the Bond movies. If half the movie writers could get the allure and style of Bond as well as
dvs…let's just say Moonraker wouldn't be a punchline.
Limited Release by anon (WIP)
Erik/Charles, contains references to child abuse and torture
I've seen this rec'd before, along the lines of, "Erik Lehnsherr is an FBI agent and Alex Summers is his new CI, whom he springs from supermax on the off-chance that Alex can help him catch the wanted terrorist Sebastian Shaw" and quite honestly, given that description, I thought, Enh and didn't click. DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE. Quite seriously, I think this may be the best thing I've read in the fandom--it's certainly the best "pure" AU, but nothing I can say can really convey just how awesome it is. I seriously laughed until I cried at multiple points, but the characterizations are so brilliantly etched that at times I just wanted to cry. WIP or no, it is genius. (And also a little bit inspired by White Collar, at least initially.) I stayed up until four in the morning rereading all of it and I have no regrets.
Hellfire (AU) by
helens78 and
cesare (WIP)
Erik/Charles, adult, dystopian AU -- read the warnings (briefly: slavery and torture, sexual and otherwise) as well as the content notes for full list of kinks
Another WIP, as dark and kinky as you'd think from the series description, brilliantly characterized and utterly hot. I especially love the supporting cast; Raven is awesome as always, but Angel and Darwin really shine here. To say nothing of Erik and Charles, of course.
And finally, two more vids that return us to canon
kuwdora's Tonight I'm Fucking You
Erik Lehnsherr, BAMF. Hot and tragic and did I mention hot? I think this vid is now the vid for this song, for me.
trelkez's My Number
Erik/Charles, Scott/Jean, Logan & Rogue
I think, of all the vids I've seen spanning all four movies (which, let's note, are two separate canons), this is by far the best--beautiful and sad and compassionate, too.
