The empress of ice cream.

My mother passed away early this morning. She died much more peacefully and quickly than we were thinking she would, and I'm certain that she's in a better place now. She wasn't really here this past week or so, and I'm glad that her suffering has ended. Of course I'll wish forever that she had never gotten cancer--or that it had been diagnosed earlier--or--or--but I refuse to wish her back. She's earned her rest.
It was grey and cold this morning, but the sky has cleared and the sun is out: it's spring in New Jersey. You can't separate the beauty of the world from its glaring imperfections. I'm going to go out and enjoy the sunshine. We were lucky to have her for as long as we did, lucky to be family, and we still are.
