If I were in my right mind at the moment (as opposed to my left) I would actually be more overwhelmed by these things than I am, but this is one of the upsides of being swamped with work; it numbs the impact of any one emotional stimulus. But! Two authors whom I very very very much LOVE, Aliette de Bodard and N.K. Jemison, have books coming out quite soon after the new year, and they have started posting sample chapters (ee!) and book trailers and other such awesome things.

Jemison (aka [livejournal.com profile] nojojojo) first: her novel is The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, and when she explained it to me in New York in May it sounded pretty amazing, and I have heard nothing but awesome things since then. Go forth and read!

Bodard (aka [livejournal.com profile] aliettedb) following: her novel Servant of the Underworld features a priest-detective in the Triple Alliance (aka the Aztec Empire) and having read various stories about the priest, Acatl, I'm just beside myself, literally. Have sample chapters! Have an interview! Watch the book trailer!

I am sorry! If I still had it I would offer to send it to you, but it's making the rounds of my local fannish community and is out of my hands for now. I think there are "send the ARC to me next!" lists around the internet you can get your name on?

Fair enough. Yes, I'm buying one for me when it comes out and making my book club read it, too.

Oh, I thought A Hundred Thousand Kingdoms sounded amazing when I read a synopsis of it; reading the first chapter makes me want to have the book now, right this minute. I am definitely going to buy it as soon as it comes out.

ooooh, awesome. A friend linked me to some cool, smart things on NK Jemison's blog last summer, and I wound up pre-ordering The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms just because she sounded like she was so full of neat ideas. The first chapter only makes me more excited to finally see it. ^_^

I hadn't heard anything about Servant of the Underworld, though, and that also sounds immensely cool! So I will have to go check that one out, too. ^^

Aw, thanks!
(and I've also been very much looking forward to Nora's book. It has stupendous cover art, and the plot and worldbuilding sound right up my alley).
