Yeah, I agree about the emotional disconnect vis-a-vis the Shaoran/Sakura pairs. In a weird way it's Kurogane and Fai who carry the emotional weight of the story, at least on the Tsubasa side.
After all the emotional hand-wringing, I'm betting something else is going to happen to that chunk of magic.
