I just looked up the United States of America on Wikipedia to see if it's larger than Brazil (the United States has the edge, incidentally, but not by much), and in the country facts sidebar, under President, it says Barack Obama.
Hot damn, how easy it is to forget how awesome that is.
I might as well talk about U2, to make this a semi-substantive post. To wit: I downloaded (legally!) their new album, "No Line On The Horizon", and I like it a lot. It's obvious that it was produced by Brian Eno, because he adds a very distinctive vibe/sound to his productions, but I think his audioscape goes well with the band's at this stage, and overall I think it's a stronger album than "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" (which I always thought of as the unacknowledged second half of "All That You Can't Leave Behind"). I heard a live recording of the band playing a set of songs from the album in Boston on Wednesday night on WXPN this morning, and it was awesome. I really hope they add either more North American or some Asian dates so I can get to see them on this tour. Here's hoping.
Oh, also, I liked this quotation on my Starbucks cup, from Yossou N'Dour:

People need to see that, far from being an obstacle, the world's diversity of languages, religions and traditions is a great treasure, affording us precious opportunities to recognize ourselves in others.
Damn straight, sir.

Date: 2009-03-14 20:25 (UTC)I got one of those "damn, Barack really is the president" when I saw a kid's placemat thing that had all the US presidents in history on it, and an illustration of Barack was at the bottom. He stands out so much from all the other presidents. It's mind-blowing to have Barack and presidents who actually owned black slaves on the same placemat.
Finally, you'll appreciate this...my computer got a virus when I was reading the latest Bleach, and part of the reason I'm upset about this is because I didn't get a chance to finish reading the latest issue. Dude, Ichigo has like a huge hole in his fucking chest.
