I shanghaied my friend M into heading down (up?) to Kung Fu Necktie last night--we saw The War on Drugs open for High Places, whom I just discovered last week (I ♥ you, WPRB!). Both of them were pretty damn awesome, and the bar is nice too. As ever, I fail at describing music well, but both bands really are quite good. High Places works with a lot of found sounds and experimental audio techniques, and the singer (they're a duo) has a beautiful voice.
I also just received the new CDs by two of my favorite groups, One For The Team and Tarlton. Both are mostly from Minneapolis--OFTT play indie pop, Tarlton electronica. The fact that I am friends with members of both bands has surprisingly little to do with my liking their music as much as I do.
(via
cofax7) This will come in handy later, I'm sure: EvoPsych bingo. I hate evopsych so bad, I can't even tell you.
Also, Sarah Monette @ Storytellers Unplugged on the line between history and fiction in Tombstone, AZ.
…That's probably it for now. I do have a canned book review or three to post, too, and I'm working on an AO3 recs set.
