What I'm reading
Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor. I've read and enjoyed several of Okorafor's previous books, and I got this at Sirens 2011…two years ago. Well, better late than never. I'm enjoying it so far, though in some ways (possibly because it's an emphatically this-world YA fantasy) it's not as compelling as The Shadow Speaker.
What I've just read
I got Cold Steel by Kate Elliott last Thursday and I read it this weekend and it was brilliant. As
inkstone said, it was a ton of Cat and Bee wandering around saving the day and the whole thing was great--I especially loved the Camjiata bits, as Kate Elliott told me she knew I would. And as much as I loved this trilogy, the great thing about just having discovered her books is that I have so many of them left to read! I also finished On a Red Station, Drifting, and read two great short stories in Apex Magazine: "To Die for Moonlight" by Sarah Monette (a new Kyle Murchison Booth story!) and "The Constable of Abal" by Kelly Link, a reprint from an anthology that I have on my shelf but haven't read.
What I'll read next
When We Wake by Karen Healey is due back at the library on Friday, so I'm probably going to try to squeeze that one in tomorrow. After that…currently I'm planning to move to Japan for research about a year from now, so in the medium term I'm trying to a) finish all the books I've borrowed from other people b) finish all the books I have that are on the Sirens 2013 staff reading list c) finish all the books I have that I don't want to pay to store somewhere for a year so I can sell them d) finish all the books that I also have as e-books so I can sell them e) finish as many books as possible. Balancing all these priorities is basically impossible, as you might imagine, especially given that I have actual work to be doing.
