I have such trouble thinking of Kohaku as a "he"...which probably reveals more about my own mental blocks than about Kohaku.
I don't think "Kobato" is helped by Clamp's generally insane work schedule, but I do tend to think that the whole "drops in the bottle" plotline is being jettisoned. It certainly seems like the chapters end on more "dramatic!" cliffhanger-type moments lately, and that the endings themselves are getting more portentous. But you're right, even if things are moving quicker, that doesn't mean the manga will end quickly.
