It was not a good book. I didn't like the other Powers book I read either, in high school, and have avoided him since then.
But yes, I think the PotC adaptation will be a major improvement.
ETA: As nasty as the reincarnated incest plot was, that wasn't even what I disliked most about the book. But I'm hoping that Elizabeth and Jack will find the Fountain of Youth and drink from it so that they can have immortal adventures with will, a la this fic (http://archiveofourown.org/works/1680) by penknife.
I also hope that the movie doesn't make Barbarossa the villain, though it seems fairly easy to transform Blackbeard in the book into Barbarossa in the movie. But I like Barbarossa.
