I really do enjoy the way the various characters and plot threads in this echo and reinforce each other.
And you're right about the objects, totally, and I don't think the YKK reference is a terrible stretch--the persistence of affect is a common theme in anime lately (cf. sekaikei stuff like Place Promised in Our Early Days, etc).
