I've really been wanting to see this film; thanks for the review and the warning.
As someone who spent a lot of time on the Irish and the Vikings in school, while they were understood by those they raided as religious others (annals of the time call them "the pagans" not "the Vikings"), it would be much more accurate to present them as imperialists--what they were doing was not so much raiding as empire-building. (Funny how the two are hard to tell apart, huh?) But to this day every major city in Ireland is the outgrowth of a Viking settlement (which is why they're all coastal).
