And yes, I think the fact that jescaflowne came out of AMVs mucks with the foundations of my argument, sigh. Though the two do make an interesting comparison of what effects-heavy looks like.
And that's the question with effects, isn't it? Where does one draw the line, both the upper and lower thresholds? A lot of AMVs go well beyond effects into original animation--I'll have to check out Newkidfan and Lim's works for comparison on the vidding side.
