First, in defiance of the theatrical premiere of the white-washed cinematic adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender on 2 July 2010, [community profile] dark_agenda has announced its Racebending Revenge Ficathon Challenge:

Re-write one or more white characters in the fandom(s) of your choice as chromatic/non-white/PoC, in a story of at least 500 words, with some acknowledgment of how the racial difference would make a difference to the story being told.

Full details and sign-up at the community post here.

And on a happier note, via [personal profile] eumelia, this one goes out to all the librarians I know, and how awesome they are:

I *know* I'm totally contrarian on this kind of stuff, but to me, these half-assed, barely polished attempts at PR just make our profession sound desperate for public approval and recognition.

(I don't even want to get started on the whole iSchool Movement concept...ALthough, there is definitely something to say for the sheer number of fairly obscure LIS in-jokes in that video!)

See, to me, I see the video and I think, "Librarians are awesome." Not that I didn't know that already, but.

I dunno, if I need a Lady Gaga-inspired vid to tell me my profession/job is awesome, I have major self-esteem issues.
