I think I'm reading it as "mediated response is more valuable because there's less of it and it won't hurt my feelings be critical." Which, you know, if that's what you want, that's one thing, but whinging about Mean People on the Internet and saying that writing in the (fandom) community is less valuable because people aren't afraid to give critical feedback is something else.
