I do remember it being creepy. On the other hand, it's much, much less creepy than House of Leaves, for instance. And my tolerance for creepiness in books is rather low.
I have Oyeyemi's first novel, The Icarus Girl, on my shelf to read; that one also got rave reviews, apparently.
