truepenny did several good posts on women and girls in the Narnia books; I think they're under a "narnia" tag there, if you want to find them. She doesn't get biographical as I recall, but she does say some trenchant things about Lewis' attitude toward adult femininity. (And the word "adult" does seem to be an important part of that equation, as attitudes toward age figure into it alongside gender.)
