It is kind of a hot mess, isn't it? Rilian seems so different from just about every other Narnian ruler in some ways--that line about how he looks just like Prince Hamlet has some significance too, I'm sure.
And yeah, I think that's also why, while I will readily acknowledge that TSC is probably the best single Narnia book, it won't ever quite be my favorite, because so much of it is not actually in Narnia.
