Very brief googling suggests that Lewis changed it from Maugrim for the original American editions, but that Harper Collins changed it back. Maybe someday the British will give us a little credit. Or maybe not, given that Bloomsbury changed the first Harry Potter book to The Sorcerer's Stone, and Scholastic took out the Britishisms through the third HP book...
