I was actually really bizarrely reminded of the first book of N.K. Jemisin's Inheritance trilogy, if you've read that, in the mortal-has-a-moiety-of-the-lost-divine aspect (which was not well integrated, imo), as well as in the "enemy god(desse)s are in fact lovers!" respect.
My takeaway is that the main character was born mortal but translated herself out of her mortal body somehow (?) to be able to ascend the celestial clockwork to free her divine lover who's imprisoned forever, and then when she got to the top she found that everything she'd believed was both true and not true, and then what she finally chose in the end was left completely unresolved.
