starlady: Kermit the Frog, at Yuletide (yuletide)
[personal profile] starlady
I got up on Christmas morning to go to Meeting for Worship, which was lovely--I have no belief in any divinity that isn't in us, but to be among my particular chosen community, who share the way to get at that divinity wherever all of us find it, was particularly nice this morning, since I was feeling terribly melancholy yesterday.

I didn't get a chance to say, in Meeting, that I realized this year that, while of course I identify my mother with Tiny Tim in Christmas Yet to Come in The Muppet Christmas Carol now, that's not even the point of the movie--the point is that Scrooge wakes up, late but in time, and that Michael Caine and the Muppets gather together and sing on Christmas morning about the real point: "Stop and look around you/The glory that you see/Is born again each day/Don't let it slip away/How precious life can be!" So that's the point, of Christmas and of everything else: we have what we have, and we're together when we can be, and it's more than enough, in the end. A very Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and to everyone else, I hope you're having a lovely weekend.

On to Yuletide!

I received two wonderful presents this year, both for The Magic Schoolbus.

This one is great! My assigned writer rolled together two of my requests to create a wonderful, amazing, timey-wimey crossover fic of awesomeness.

Fandom: Magic School Bus
Summary: Third grade has far-rippling effects. About twenty years on, the kids remember Ms. Frizzle's impact on their lives, each in their own way.

My assigned writer wrote from Ms. Frizzle's point of view; this is future fic set in the present from the points of view of her students, all of whom have been transformed in various subtle and profound ways. This one too is heartwarming and awesome.

Thank you, writers, and a merry Yuletide to you both! ♥
