Yeah, I really don't like Ted Chiang's stuff either. Someone tried to tell me once that it was because all the stories in his first book were written while he was closeted. Oddly enough, that has no bearing on my main objection, namely that his stories usually portray worlds in which only those with heaps of male privilege live in anything but utter dystopia.
This book is less sexist than Asimov, but that's not really saying much.
