To be born. [at the 11th hour]

I thought I would quote Gerald R. Ford when I thought about this post in weeks prior: "Our long national nightmare is over."

But then I thought, let's stick with the classics. So, in the words of Phedippides: "Rejoice! We won!"

 


I just read John Updike's review of Toni Morrison's new novel A Mercy; I think some of the most poetic lines I've read lately are in the last paragraph, particularly the one about "a new world turning old." But perhaps now, at this moment, we can at last begin to turn an old, tired, bankrupt world new.
