By "children" I'm pretty sure he's referring to the characters in both manga. The perks of age, huh? 

So CCS!Shaoran & Sakura aren't dead after all. They're just somewhere else. It kind of reminds me of the end of Deep Space Nine.

feels like CLAMP is saying 'we figured out how this is going to end now' and 'you know how it sounded like his parents were dead? we didn't really mean it'.

They're totally playing a shell game with all these Shaoran & Sakura sets--but only one is the real one! The others are clones and people just using the names as aliases. So I guess it's fitting that at the end of the manga they'll finally reveal where the originals have been stashed.

Where are CCS|SxS?
My bet is they've been sleeping under the ruins all along, and that they are the power FWR is trying to get his hands on: since they are very well hidden, so well that the fortune teller thought at first they were actually dead, maybe the place they are in is of hard access and forced FWR to get memories from many different dimensions to actually manage to break through the world they are in.
There are endless arguments against this theory, but I will stick with that until I come up with something else more plausible.

And I agree: there really is only one single original SxS couple out there and it was just right to know about them finally...
