Stating the obvious.
Mar. 7th, 2009 00:40At this point in my life I am very much one sf/f fan in the crowd, but even as one fan in the crowd, I can and will re-dedicate myself to reading the genre I love with intent and with ethical awareness, keeping the incipient whitewashing of the genre in the forefront of my mind. I am not a PoC, but I never want to be anything but an ally. If I make an ass of myself along the way (which is very probable, as I am unfortunately in the habit of doing that), so be it, and I welcome any and all respectful criticism; any discomfort I may feel is very much beside the point.

And a couple I think started out with good intentions but ended up wanting to hurt the way they or their friends had been hurt.
What Shetterly and Kramer did was above and beyond creepy, though. Not just in the outing itself, but their mean-spirited responses to her requests to stop.

Was there some comment on that page which should've jumped out at me in that context, & I'm just clueless?
Oh, FWIW, I'm here via a link from Naomi Novik's LJ post.
