DTB: Ryuusei no Gemini 03
I have to say, I admire this show for its willingness to rack up a body count. Of the 21 characters listed on the website, between 7 and 9 of them are presumably dead by the end of this episode (though some may come back), to say nothing of the collateral damage. MI-6 in particular has been hit hard. I do think, though, that it's a weakness of anime that the pacifist characters are generally such saps, wimps, however you want to put it--they're always upstaged by the killing characters until they themselves are killed or become killers themselves.
Hei slapping around naked!Suou ≠ very nice. It reminded me of him torturing Havoc in the first series--Hei has a temper, and he's not very nice. Of course, there's an irony here in that Hei himself has now become a Regressor or whatever they're called (I'll have to check the Shinsen release for that) like Havoc, while Suou becomes a contractor.
I don't think that Hei himself killed Yin. The way he jumps in one go from "I topic-marker Yin object-marker" to "I'll kill that woman" makes me think that "that woman" did something to Yin. And frankly, I think Ms. Purple-Blond, Madam Oreiyu, is a prime candidate to be "that woman." And, looking at those creepy blond twins (dressed like those crazy twins from Dogs, mind you) I can't help but wonder if maybe she captured and cloned Yin or something creepy and sinister like that.
I do think Misaki's astronomer friend has a point about looking for boyfriends in all the wrong places. And so Misaki's joined an anti-Syndicate group of super-spies within one of the government ministries? Yes, because that has "good decision" written all over it.
Suou's contractor-transformation is totally Utena by way of Hellsing.
Hei: The first step is admitting that you have a problem.

Date: 2009-10-25 23:39 (UTC)Hei slapping the girl... see, that's one reason I liked Hei, in S1. Because he's the hero, yet he's written as having definite bad-guy elements, and none of this namby-pamby pacifism crap. He does have a temper and does hurt people, which balances out his gentler side. (Plus they did a good job of flattening his eyes as a subtle sign of when his boundaries are being crossed.)
If you can find the stuff on Regressors, that'd be cool -- the manga has explanations left out of the series, it seems. And I'm not sure he's lost his powers... erm, in a sense. The mention of Dr Schneider makes me wonder if the test was to see if the asteroid bit can subdue one contractor's powers -- with the side-effect of apparently creating a new contractor.
Then again, subduing Hei's abilities may be the route to let him have normal relationship, ahem. Maybe.

Date: 2009-10-26 00:36 (UTC)No, you're definitely right. Hei has emotions, and not just positive ones, but the negative ones too. Just him slapping Suou around is not a good image. But that's balanced out by him saving her life in episode 2, and five minutes later in this one when he offers to take her to Tokyo and keeps saving her. And when he prevents her from killing Tanya.
I'm reading the manga atm, I'll let you know if any worthwhile info dumps pop up.
There's a lot of jargon in that scene and I didn't get all of it, so I'm still not sure if they were even aware that Suou/the meteor shard were in range of the device at all. But the way the waveform separated from the person-icon at the end makes me think it'd be possible to reunite them. Havoc began to regain her powers when she approached the Gate, after all...in Tokyo.

Someone needs to tell Misaki that Hei's women have a tendency to wind up dead. For that matter, Suou better watch out. :-)
I dunno, though, he was a ruthless mercenary killer before he became a contractor.

Can't wait for Thursday. :)

Date: 2009-10-25 18:28 (UTC)Yeah, I liked that quality about the first anime too. It's one of my problems with most shonen, that no one ever dies (except when they do and it is milked for maximum horror, angst, and shock). I guess it's why it's broadcast so late at night, though--not ok for the kiddies. :-)
