jhameia, an interview with Janelle Monáe at io9.com. She is so awesome, omg.
It occurred to me in the grocery store today that buying local is a form of economic nationalism.
Thanks to coworker L's garden I had seven Jersey tomatoes just about to turn in my fridge, so I made gazpacho. Ignore what the recipe says about hothouse English cucumbers (WTF, seriously); it's super easy and tasty with normal cucumbers. I don't even like cucumbers, and I love this recipe. (Yes, cucumbers. I hate pears too. Other than that, I'm cool.) And since I got a ridiculous amount of basil for $1.50, I think tomorrow I'll be making pesto.
I also decided to type up the NPR berry/cobbler/strawberry-rhubarb/crisp recipes, because they're hard to find on the website and this way I have them accessible if my paper copies ever go kaput. Also this way I can share them. But the heat has finally broken, albeit temporarily, so right now I'm going to go running instead.
