Hello people, particularly new people. I see I was linked to by metafandom -- welcome, all! I'm at Schoolgirls and Mobilesuits in Minneapolis at the moment (listening to Crispin Freeman talk about mythology and the creator's psyche in Evangelion, actually), which is an awesome con that you should totally go to if you're in the area. I will be back with actual content a bit later this week, probably Tuesday. Wish me a good flight, and have a good weekend, or at least what's left of it.

You should come next year, it happens every year! This is my third, and it's awesome.

It's a shame I didn't know, I would've dragged by butt out of bed early to go to some of the stuff that was up today. I will most certainly be keeping an eye open for it next year.

Apparently there was almost no budget for non-online promotion this year.

Oh man, that con sounds amazing. Coincidentally I am in the middle of reading one of the Frenchy Lunning-edited books.

It is made of amazing--a little like Wiscon in its mix of fannish and critical stuff, with an amazing fashion show and the art workshops thrown in.

I will try to remember to post a bit about it in advance on the journal next year. I didn't have much brainspace to devote to it until I basically got on the plane.

Oh man, fashion show. That sounds awesome. To me cosplay is part of the fun of attending an anime-oriented event, but I suppose a fashion show would make up for it, heh. (Oh no, I see they have both a masquerade & a fashion show!!!)

I'm reading Networks of Desire. So far I am enjoying it.

Networks of Desire is quite a good one--I also like 3, and 4, but I think 2 coheres in a very nice way.

The fashion show was amazing this year--it was part of MN Fashion Week, and they had it in the main gallery, and it was great. One of the designers did a scifi collection, and it was awesome. There were Dalek dresses and a Tardis coat!

Awwwww man, my library only has #2 & #1 (which I haven't yet read).

#5 looks like it will be AMAZE.

They're quite reasonably priced for academic texts, tho', so I may have to splash out... hmmmmmm... I'd really like to read the article on loli fashion--something I have been wrestling w/(theoretically, mostly!) lately.

I've been told that there are generally used copies up on Half.com and Amazon for cheaper than the list price, too.

Yeah, I'm excited for 5.

The Dalek dresses were great! And the TARDIS coat reversed to show the inside of the Tardis!

Yeahhhhh, but I don't live in the US anymore so I'm cut off from Half.com, alas. Amazon.co.uk has some used copies (though insert grumble about how much more expensive even used books are here, sigh).
