SF3 meeting on October 3: Make your voice heard about Wiscon

Via jhameia and K. Tempest Bradford on Twitter, exceedingly short warning but very important notice about a way in which you can have a concrete impact on the direction Wiscon is taking now and will in the future: 

SF3 holds its annual meeting on October 3, 2010 in Madison, Wisconsin at the Concourse Hotel; all SF3 members are eligible to vote either in person or by proxy, and the meeting will have a conference phoneline for members not present to voice their views.


Question to my circle: Are any of you a) members and b) planning on attending the meeting?

I am not a member, but I will become one this weekend, and I'm going to the meeting. I do not have a particular agenda to carry out at this meeting, except to express my opinions when appropriate (just as I've been doing the last three weeks via e-mail).

SF3 meetings are almost always held the second Sunday in October. Their meetings are not secret.


Here's what I don't know: If the current Troika is voted out, who would replace them? I think they would gladly give it up, but I can't think of a single person who would say, "Please, let me be on the Troika!"
Regardless of what happens to them, I'm seriously concerned about anyone ever volunteering to be on the Troika again.

I didn't think the SF3 meetings were secret, but I'd bet that most people involved with Wiscon never gave them much thought before this.

That's an excellent point about potential other members of the Troika, and I'm sure your read of the potential for people to step forward is spot-on. Running a con is hard work and a huge commitment even at the best of times, and whoever volunteered right now would be under immense pressure.

Verily; even most people involved in planning WisCon never gave SF3 very much though - I certainly didn't.

I was thinking of going anyway because I like boring bureaucratic meetings and I don't get enough of them any more, now that I'm no longer a page.

Maybe this one will be less than boring--I mean, I've gotten into heated arguments about forever stamps at meetings like that (!!).

Yeah, I think everyone's expecting this one to be much less than boring.

No, but I'm really really thinking about joining and sending my proxy. Need to do it now; emceeaich and I were talking about it on Saturday.

Yeah, I'm strongly considering doing the same.

So how do you find a proxy to send??

I just got the forms and am trying to figure out who to designate as a proxy and whatever. The people I know who are interested are probably already on it??
