Hmm. Hmm. Surely the message of Guy Fawkes Day is exactly the opposite: namely that we should celebrate the defeat of terrorists who belong to scary minority religions? Surely it's the ultimate anti-revolutionary holiday.

Yeah, actually, you're totally right, but my interpretation of the holiday is very much a product of the graphic novel/movie.

Good movie but not a great deal to do with the way the holiday is actually celebrated.

(One of my British friends also pointed out to me that no one says "Happy Guy Fawkes Day.")

*snerk* Well, unless the Tories have installed a totalitarian dictatorship… What do they say? Anything?

It's sort of like, what do you say when it's the Fourth of July? Usually something along the lines of, "are you going to the fireworks?" Or "shame it's raining" or whatever. It's not really a holiday that has specific good wishes attached.
