I have a family connection to Reed College; the 2011 Reed calendar is "Treasures from the Special Collections" (my favorite is probably the Greek typewriter), and when I saw this image on the back cover, I thought some people might be interested.
After Eddings passed away, I read that he left $28 million to various charities. I was really happy to hear that, because he totally deserved it. His books were awesome.
I hadn't heard that about the charities. He also left all his and his wife's papers and a multimillion dollar bequest to Reed--the college endowed an English chair in his honor.
I should have specified that I counted Reed as one of those charities. :3
"The unfinished work, along with his other well renowned manuscripts, will go to his alma mater, Reed College in Portland, Ore.[6], along with a bequest of $18 million to fund "students and faculty studying languages and literature."[7] Eddings also bequeathed $10 million dollars to National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver for pediatric-asthma treatment and research. Edding's wife Leigh had asthma throughout her life before she died in 2007.[8]" - Wikipedia
My niece just started at Reed this year. She's read quite a quite a lot of fantasy, so I imagine she's probably thrilled by the David Eddings connection there.
