I had a great day yesterday where I really felt like I wasn't in grad school--not that I don't love being in grad school (I do) and not that I didn't do work for grad school yesterday (I did), but it could easily have been a day that slipped out of the life of an alternate me in an alternate universe, where I live in the Bay area for some reason anyway. It was a really fun day, too.

# A lot of people have seen this already, but for those who haven't: Hideaki Akaiwa, face-puncher of a tsunami
# The New York Philarmonic performed Takemitsu's Requiem two weeks ago in honor of the victims of Japan's disasters, and the performance is now available to download, with the proceeds going to relief efforts.
# Murder in the Time of Cholera: PW (that's Philadelphia Weekly, for all of you not from the 215) looks at the murder of immigrant laborers, and the murder's coverup, in 1832. This is a famous case locally, and it looks like it's starting to crack; I also was unaware of the associated paranormal phenomena. (via

Fun (for certain values of fun)
# Six terrifying ways crows are smarter than you think. I fucking love crows. Which is good, because apparently they can recognize human faces! (via

# The Disney Princesses as the Seven Deadly Sins

Date: 2011-04-04 00:48 (UTC)I read that as "cows", not "crows", and having read the article on crows, my first thought upon misreading was: "wow! cows are as smart as crows! who'da thunk it."
Uhm.
Long day.
