starlady: a circular well of books (well of books)

What I'm reading
Still the same as last week. Probably going to take a selection of books to Portland with me including Plato and Martial and Heyer.

What I've just read
Gene Yang's new Avatar comic, The Search Part One! I went down to Fantastic Comics today and they had it in stock and I bought it. It is still excellent--like the show but in a comic. I continue to appreciate the amount of research and thought that Yang puts in--the ancient Earth Kingdom philosophy of ruling the dude is going on about in the beginning, for instance. We will see how the Azula and Ursa plotlines play out. I kind of have reservations about the implications of [SPOILER], but I shall say no more until other people have read it.

Also, for Bay Area people: Gene Yang is going to be at Fantastic Comics in Berkeley on April 6 at 3pm!

What I'll read next
I requested Wendy Walker's The Secret Service from Stanford because they list it as available in their stacks and it is going for hundreds if not thousands of dollars used online. I can't believe she hasn't put out an e-book. I've heard things about it for years, but I stumbled on [personal profile] coffeeandink's old entry about fantasy of manners and was inspired to search for it again. Also, I have a boatload of Martial, Plato, and all the other books on my shelves.
