I just paid for a supporting membership for the 2014 Worldcon, and signed up to convert to an attending membership on the installment plan. (As well as the installment plan, this con is offering several ways to make membership less expensive, including young adult and family memberships.) I'm also planning to attend Wikimania 2014.
Both of these events are in London in August of next year. I'm currently planning to leave the States on or about August 1 and arrive in Japan on or about September 15. As you can see from the above, I will be spending a good chunk of time in London, and I'm also planning to go to Belgium and Germany, and possibly other places on the Continent depending on whether/where anyone would like to host me. So, in the spirit of "it's a year away but it would be great if we could meet up!" let me know if that is something you'd be able/willing to do, and where. :D And let me know if you will be in London for Worldcon and/or Wikimania!

Date: 2013-09-30 05:42 (UTC)I just looked at the location, & haha kind of a pain in the ass to get to (er, I mean, it could be a lot worse, but there's a reason I've never been to that corner of London, even tho I am in east London as well). If you need crash space the day b/f or after the con (depending on the vagaries of your flight vs. hotel booking) you could possibly crash w/me if you need to though!

Date: 2013-10-01 05:25 (UTC)Thanks for the crash space offer! I may wind up take you up on it, because never say never, but the central concept of the plan is that I have a friend who is going to be getting an apartment in the city for either the summer or August until the end of the year. So hopefully that will be that. :D
Regardless of whether you go to Loncon, we must hang out!!

Date: 2013-10-01 05:22 (UTC)I always swore I would never go to Worldcon unless it landed in my lap, but now I'm using it as the lynchpin excuse for six weeks in Europe. I suspect the London location will make this Worldcon less objectionable than many others in the States because of fairly obvious reasons! And I know a lot of authors go for professional reasons.
ETA: Regardless, we should get food somewhere sometime while I'm there! :D

Date: 2013-10-01 19:30 (UTC)I'm a bit fuzzy on how much going to cons benefits writing careers TBH. But yes, either way we should definitely get some food!

Date: 2013-10-06 14:40 (UTC)But I am (South) London based so happy to meet up if you are around and free *G* Can offer crash space too - though it would be a sofa bed and you'd need to be cat friendly!
