I just paid for a supporting membership for the 2014 Worldcon, and signed up to convert to an attending membership on the installment plan. (As well as the installment plan, this con is offering several ways to make membership less expensive, including young adult and family memberships.) I'm also planning to attend Wikimania 2014.

Both of these events are in London in August of next year. I'm currently planning to leave the States on or about August 1 and arrive in Japan on or about September 15. As you can see from the above, I will be spending a good chunk of time in London, and I'm also planning to go to Belgium and Germany, and possibly other places on the Continent depending on whether/where anyone would like to host me. So, in the spirit of "it's a year away but it would be great if we could meet up!" let me know if that is something you'd be able/willing to do, and where. :D And let me know if you will be in London for Worldcon and/or Wikimania!

I would like to hang out during Worldcon! I'm not sure if I'm going to be going (tbh a lot of it depends on if Carrie Vaughn says definitively if she will attend, ahaha), but obvs I will be around anyway (er unless I somehow manage to move to Brussels in the interim, which... unlikely).

I just looked at the location, & haha kind of a pain in the ass to get to (er, I mean, it could be a lot worse, but there's a reason I've never been to that corner of London, even tho I am in east London as well). If you need crash space the day b/f or after the con (depending on the vagaries of your flight vs. hotel booking) you could possibly crash w/me if you need to though!

WHOO! I'll be in LonCon too :D :D I can definitely meet up with you in London at any point if you're willing; and if you're at all interested in getting to know Devon, you're more than welcome to crash at mine! I live about two hours by train away from London :)

Yup! I live in Exeter, which is a large-ish city for Devon standards (ie pretty small), and which you can easily see in a day, but there are lots of little towns nearby that are apparently lovely! I wouldn't know how to be a good tour guide, my days have been mostly home-campus-(pub)-home, but I've heard great things :)

And god, yes, London is ridiculously expensive!

Are you interested in coming to a Diana Wynne Jones conference the week after (September 5/6)? There will be (hopefully) interesting papers and also opportunities to see DWJ's original archive material!

I'm deliberating over whether I wanna go to Loncon -- am going for Nine Worlds which I think is the weekend before or after, so I don't know if it would be TOO MUCH con, or if it would be quite cool to take a week off work to con it up. I'll be in London anyways!

I really enjoyed Nine Worlds this year, but 10 days of con would be a lot of con!

I'm a bit fuzzy on how much going to cons benefits writing careers TBH. But yes, either way we should definitely get some food!

A-ha, so it's happening! Sweet. I'd offer to host you, but I do live in the middle of nowhere, so that's probably not desirable. I might even get to London, tho, depending on holiday approval next year. So we'll meet one way or another :)

I haven't planned next year yet (at the moment all I can manage is next week)!

But I am (South) London based so happy to meet up if you are around and free *G* Can offer crash space too - though it would be a sofa bed and you'd need to be cat friendly!
