I'm currently cleaning out my possessions at my dad's house, and I found a stash of kimono and kimono jackets in one of the closets. Since I already have a kimono jacket and a kimono myself, and these are too beautiful to sit in a closet in perpetuity, I thought I'd see if anyone wants them. I purchased all of them in 2007-08 at flea markets in Kyoto; all are either synthetic or real silk, as none of them have enough stray threads for me to test them (the only reliable way to tell silk from polyester is to burn a little piece of it; real silk burns white). A few have very minor defects that are noted in the descriptions, and are priced accordingly.
Buyer pays s&h, which will be by USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate ($12.35 for all but the obi, which will be $5.80); I will ship internationally, though that may get pricey.
Purple ivy kimono
58" long, rear panel 22" wide
Sleeves 16" wide, 12.25" long
Lined with plain silk. Hollyhock crest at the top back.
This kimono is so beautiful I bought it despite the fact that it's too small for me. I'm 5'6" with a 39" bust, and it is definitely too small for me (both in the bust and length-wise) to wear outside the house. Someone more petite than me could do so; someone my size could wear it around the house as a robe or whatever. I very strongly suspect that this one is genuine silk.
Cost: $50
Vermillion-gold obi with chrysanthemum embroidery
Roughly 11' long, with about four feet of train, the rest stitched folded in half
Really beautiful; suitable for display if you're clever with hanging things. Vermillion silk with gold tint visible at angles.
Cost: $25
Grey kimono jacket w/daisy under-pattern and geometric embroideries
Roughly 24" wide, 30" long, sleeves 12" long and 18" wide
Lined with pale pink chrysanthemum-patterned silk. This otherwise beautiful jacket has a small moth-eaten hole at the left front bottom, which I somehow missed or I wouldn't have bought it. There are also some very faint brown spots on the back right sleeve, hidden while you're wearing it--I only noticed them today. If you know how to patch or darn, or if you're just looking for kimono fabric, this is a great deal, especially since I strongly suspect it's genuine silk.
Cost: $30
Green kimono jacket with herbal pattern
Roughly 25" wide, 30" long, sleeves 17" wide & 12.5" long
Lined with floral-patterned silk, small brown spot in inner lining, some light yellowing at shoulder seam (possibly from being stored incorrectly?). A really beautiful pale green that looks washed out in the pictures for some reason. If forced to guess, I'd say this is probably synthetic, but a very nice synthetic.
Cost: $40
Also, if you'd be interested in more kimono etc, I'm moving back to Japan next month. Comment if you'd be interested and I can see about finding more such items while I'm there!
