- Everyone wants to see the legacy characters from the previous series (or at least TNG) but one of the things I remembered when I was doing my rewatch is just how many potentially quite interesting descendant characters are running around to be explored--and how many of them have non-Federation connections that would make them doubly interesting in the more isolationist era of PIC. Miral Paris, theoretical Klingon messiah, is 21 standard years old; Molly O'Brien, who I am increasingly convinced would have converted to the Bajoran religion at some point, is 31 standard years old (and Hana Hatae is still acting sporadically!); Sisko's younger child is 23 standard years old. Heck, even fucking Wesley or Q's child could very well make an appearance--to say nothing of Commander Sela, my problematic fave. I like that PIC is mostly giving us new characters, but carefully salting the foreground and background with these types of figures could potentially be quite interesting.
- I feel like the Federation being Like That now makes it even more likely that Bashir would have retired from Starfleet and settled down with Garak on Cardassia.
- Similarly, I really wonder how the Doctor is doing in this era. In "Endgame," set in 2404, he's basically a full person in society, but it seems quite likely that that could be very different from how things have actually shaken out in 2399.
- I really want to see Picard's emotional support Romulans/ex-Tal Shiar estate managers grousing about how human wine is no Romulan ale. Or something. I love them. I love all of the Romulans, including the one who looks to be seducing Soji under false pretenses.
- The group that Seven is part of, the Fenris Rangers, is only one of many elements that makes it feel like Star Trek is doing Babylon 5. Which, to be clear, I love Babylon 5 for its imperfect perfection, but it's interesting that we're getting this now. I don't think it's "too dark" or any of that bullshit, but it certainly is a change in some ways.
- I retweeted the thing about Data's poker hand being five queens but I'm still of two minds on whether Q could/should/will show up again. I would love it, but I'm not sure what story purpose it would serve, at least in this season. Maybe in S3? They can do the mirror universe episode then too.
- Speaking of Bashir, I do wonder what Section 31 is up to these days. I feel confident that we'll find out.
- What are the Romulans doing with the Borg cube????
